Mr. Velamuri's selflessness was no surprise to those who knew him. "He had a divine nature," his wife, Vasanta, says. "He helped so many people, no matter what." He would always tell her: "Do good to other people. If they need it, you have to go and do it. God will give the help." Mrs. Velamuri remembers how her husband "always kept lot of families in his apartment" who were down on their luck. "Blacks, whites, Indian people: If they don't have any job, if he came across anybody." She remembers one man her husband housed for six months in his apartment. "He met him in the railway station and told him, come to my apartment, don't worry about it. He never thought we were different people, different nationalities." Sankara S.
