Mongolia's Democratic Success Earns Millennium Challenge Grant

Improvements to Mongolia's rail transportation, property rights, vocational education and health care systems are the focus of a nearly $285 million foreign-assistance package from the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The United States honors “the success of your country and the commitment of your government to basic principles," President Bush tells President Nambaryn Enkhbayar of Mongolia during the signing ceremony for the compact.   (complete text)


Millennium Challenge Corporation Awards Tanzania $698 Million

The Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Board of Directors approves a five-year, $698 million Millennium Challenge Compact with the United Republic of Tanzania that seeks to reduce poverty, stimulate economic growth and increase household incomes through targeted infrastructure investments in transport, energy and water. “This agreement is a testament to Tanzanians’ commitment to building a better life for themselves and their children,” says MCC’s CEO, Ambassador John Danilovich.   (complete text)


Lesotho Gets Boost with Five-Year U.S. Millennium Grant

Lesotho's economic growth prospects have become brighter with the recent Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) decision to help the small southern African country build a much-needed dam. The dam, in Lesotho's Metolong region, will capture water from mountain springs. The harnessed water then can be stored in tanks for later use by households and by the country's growing garment manufacturing industry.   (complete text)
