<body> <h1>Where they Stand</h1><P><em>A political party's platform tells voters where the party stands on the important issues of the day. We present excerpts from the 2004 platforms of the United States' two major parties, the Republican and the Democratic, after introductions to each written by experienced party activists. Writing on the Republican Party platform is Tucker Eskew, former deputy assistant to the president in the White House Office of Communications, and on the Democratic Party platform, Marc Ginsberg, former U.S. ambassador to Morocco and managing director and chief executive officer of Northstar Equity Group.</em></P> <H5><em>Excerpts from the two major party platforms appear below.
