An Iraqi Kurdish militiaman carries parts of an artillery shell
that exploded in a vacant lot in Irbil, in Kurdish-ruled northern
Iraq, Friday, March 28, 2003. The shell, apparently filled with
TNT and smoke bombs, exploded discharging a huge white plume of
smoke and prompting fears of a chemical attack, but caused no injuries.
