Children return to school in a village near the city of Najaf
Children return to school in a village near the city of Najaf in central Iraq on April 4, 2003, for the first time since the war started. Soldiers from the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion helped clean up the school that was damaged by artillery fire. The soldiers also took money out of their own pockets to pay the teacher several months salary in advance.
