The Return of Laughter
There isn't a single New Yorker you speak to who was not shaken by the events of September 11. But those same people will tell you that while they will always remember those who died, life must go on -- and signs of this healing are evident across the city. In mid-November there were no lines to visit the observation deck at the top of the Empire State Building. Just two weeks later, the place was packed, and New Yorkers and tourists alike -- like Cheryl and Douglas Anello, pictured above -- were once again willing to let their guard down and enjoy one of America's great landmarks.
