Dear webchat participants. We expect to post Mr. Hagstrom's answers to your questions on August 25. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Journalists play an essential role in the electoral process. Not only do reporters follow politicians on the campaign trail, they are in a unique position to expose corruption and election fraud to readers. Newspapers and magazines also may endorse candidates on their opinion pages, steering voters toward candidates. Join veteran journalist Jerry Hagstrom for a USINFO webchat on the role of the media during elections.
Guest Biography: Jerry Hagstrom has been a contributing editor for the National Journal, a Washington newsweekly on government and national politics, since 1976. He also writes for National Journal's sister publications, Congress Daily and Government Executive.
Hagstrom pioneered the coverage of the polling and media consulting industries for the National Journal. He has lectured on modern political campaigns and the relationship between media and politics in 25 countries as the guest of the State Department. He is also the co-author of The Book of America: Inside Fifty States Today, a book on the politics and character of each of the 50 states, and the author of Beyond Reagan: The New Landscape of American Politics.
