Blogging remains uncharted territory for users, journalists and governments alike. Across the globe, people are just beginning to understand the scope of the blogosphere. Some journalists worry that blogging will eclipse traditional media and some governments are concerned that bloggers will undermine their political authority. More and more bloggers face censorship and in more extreme cases jail time. Join journalist and blogger Julien Pain for a webchat about attacks on bloggers and cyber-dissidents, and what can be done about it.
Guest Biography: Julien Pain is a journalist specializing in new media who has been head of the Internet and Freedom desk at Reporters Without Borders since September 2003. He is in charge of the organization’s lobbying and ad campaigns on the subject of online free expression. He is the author of the 2004 report "Internet under surveillance" and was the editor of the "Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber-Dissidents," which has been translated into seven languages. He is also the editor of www.rsfblog.org, a website that offers a weekly international review of blogs about a current hot topic.
