Matthew Sanford uses his story of living with paralysis to emphasize the critical role the body plays in an individual’s energy level, ability to manage stress, sense of wonder, and even clarity of thought. With his unique perspective, Sanford seeks to enlighten a wide variety of audiences on the practical importance of something they take for granted – their bodies.
Guest Biography: As a philosopher, yoga teacher, author and founder of Mind Body Solutions, Matt Sanford shares his message that “connecting positively to one’s body is the secret to living life well.” Paralyzed from the chest down, Sanford has dedicated the last 12 years of his life to integrating his body and soul. He also specializes in adapting yoga for people living with disabilities and teaches an ongoing class at the Courage Center, a leading rehabilitation facility.
Sanford is a leading advocate for the development of wellness among the disabled. He frequently leads workshops on the intersection of yoga, mind-body integration, and the rehabilitation process. In the past, Sanford has given presentations for Fortune 500 companies, trade associations and health care professionals, and received the Judd Jacobson Memorial Award for his work with yoga and disabilities. His recently published book Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence recounts his journey through his paralysis, rehabilitation and discovery of yoga. Matthew also has authored articles for the Yoga Journal and the electronic journal Disability and Ability.
