Tayyibah Taylor is the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of Azizah, a glossy quarterly magazine by and for American Muslim women. Join Taylor as she discusses how her magazine highlights the accomplishments of Muslim women in America and creates a platform for them to share their unique experiences with each other, fellow Americans and Muslims around the world. Taylor will also discuss her participation in a U.S. Department of State traveling speaker program in which she spoke of her experiences as a Muslim woman in America to audiences in Thailand, Malaysia and Pakistan.

Guest Biography:

Tayyibah Taylor is the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Azizah, a glossy quarterly magazine that has as its motto: "[I]t's more than a magazine -- It's a catalyst for empowerment." Through Azizah, Taylor has realized her vision of providing a vehicle for making heard the voices of Muslim American women – a vehicle that allows them to portray themselves from their own perspectives and to shatter stereotypes.

Taylor has presented lectures on Islam and Muslim women at national and international conferences such as: the Society of Professional Journalists Conference; the Harvard Divinity School’s Islam in America Conference; the Belgian -U.S. Muslim Dialogue; the Lecture Series at the Women’s College of Shariah and Law of the International Islamic University of Islamabad, Pakistan; and the 2006 WISE conference in New York City, which convened 100 Muslim women leaders from all over the globe to discuss women’s participation in Islamic law. Taylor has worked on several interfaith initiatives and has traveled to Turkey, Spain, Morocco, Jerusalem and Greece with various groups of Jews, Christians and Muslims. Her work blends her passions for spirituality, dialogue and journalism.
