Ambassador Vasquez will travel to Mozambique December 3-7, 2007.

He will visit rural communities in the southern and central parts of the country to observe how the United States and the U.N. food and agriculture agencies are working together to strengthen partnerships for food security in a region suffering from high rates of HIV/AIDS and extreme weather conditions.

The ambassador will lead a group of journalists from Korea, Malaysia and Mozambique. They will meet with farmers, Peace Corps volunteers, community representatives, government officials, teachers, students, AIDS orphans and health professionals to discuss how humanitarian and agricultural assistance partnerships can better help local communities build sustainable livelihoods.

From December 3, read about Vasquez’s journey and interact with him via his travel blog at webchat.state.gov.

Guest Biography: Ambassador Gaddi H. Vasquez is the eighth U.S. representative to the United Nations agencies in Rome. He was nominated by President Bush and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on June 29, 2006, and sworn into office on September 7, 2006, by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Prior to that, he was the director of the United States Peace Corps.
